Internet Addiction Alters The Human Brain.
For the first time, internet addiction has been linked with changes in the brain sharing striking similarities to brains of people hooked on alcohol, cocaine and marijuana. A recently conducted study showed that when observed with a MRI, abnormalities in the brains of teens that spent many hours surfing the internet, so much so that it affected other areas of their lives. The testing could reveal new insights into other behavioral problems which may lead to novel approaches to treatment.
It’s thought that up to between 5 to 10 percent of internet surfers could be addicted to the medium. Unable to control their usage, these people are often alienating themselves from the outside world further lessening their ability to grow socially. Gamers make up the majority and often become so absorbed in their gaming activities, they’ll go without food or drinks for dangerously long stretches of time, jeopardizing relationships, education and employment.
